The 16th round of the UCI Women’s World Tour gets underway in the British capital of London, on one of the most iconic roads in the world, The Mall, which leads to the London residence of the Queen, Buckingham Palace.
Racing gets underway at 5pm with riders taking on 12 laps of a 5.4km circuit, totalling 64.8km. The race starts on The Mall in St James’s Park and goes up Constitution Hill, turning at the top to come down and on to Birdcage Walk. The route passes Horse Guards Parade, then turns right through Admiralty Arch before turning right down Whitehall, taking a u-turn in front of Big Ben before heading back up Whitehall, turning left at Trafalgar Square, through Admiralty Arch and back on to The Mall.
Our 5-rider team will consist of Anna Badegruber, Gabrielle Pilote-Fortin, Winanda Spoor, Lin Teutenberg, and U23 European time trial champion and road race silver medallist, Aafke Soet.
Ride London Classique will be Winanda’s first race back after breaking her ribs and collarbone in the OVO Energy Women’s Tour, but with a course which suits her, she’ll look to be in the mix in the sprint.
The Prudential Ride London Classique is the richest one-day race in the world, with 25,000 Euros up for grabs to the individual winner, 10,000 to the winning team and 12,600 to the intermediate sprints winner.
