First major signing for 2017 announced by Team WNT

30/09/2016

Hot on the heels of the news that Team WNT has applied for its UCI licence for the 2017 European season, The British-based team has unveiled its first major signing for next year’s challenge for major honours. Joining the team is 2014 and 2016 British National Road Race Champion Eileen Roe.

Eileen joins the team at an exciting point in Team WNT’s short history. As it enters its third season the team is determined to continue to make its mark and the move up to UCI level is evidence of this. “With Eileen coming on board, following her successful guest appearance for the team at the recent Rás na mBan stage race in Ireland, where she won the points classification and won the final stage of the 5 day race while helping Team WNT take the overall team win, we now have two national champions in the squad. A remarkable achievement for such a young team,” Says Claude Sun Global Managing Director WNT

Eileen brings with her an extensive palmares, which in addition to her two national championship wins, includes multiple race and stage wins and also the overall win in 2014 in the Matrix Fitness Tour Series alongside representing Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. “It is a great opportunity to be joining such an ambitious team as Team WNT at this point in its history,” says Eileen. “To be stepping up to UCI level after such a short time highlights the determination of everyone involved. And over the past two years I have got to know what a well-run team it is and, riding as a guest for Team WNT at Rás na mBan simply confirmed that. After riding for a UCI team in 2015 and then again in 2016 I’m looking forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to the team so we can all move forward together and I am more than confident that we will be successful and make some of the more established UCI teams take notice of us in 2017. I would like to thank the management at WNT for presenting me with this wonderful opportunity.”
