Returning favourites strengthen Team WNT’s 2017 challenge

18/10/2016

The team building continues at a pace at Team WNT with the further announcement that Becca Carter, Bex Rimmington, Keira McVitty, Natalie Grinczer will once again be riding for the team in 2017. Between them these four riders offer a dynamism and diversity of riding styles that will be well suited to the challenges ahead for Team WNT as it looks to step up to the second highest level in world cycling, UCI Continental racing. Their experience will also be invaluable as Team WNT continues its quest for overall victory in the Matrix Fitness GP Tour Series in the UK.

All four are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to race in Europe, with some among them already experiencing the step up in competition. They are also very ambitious, with Keira suggesting that her target would be to win a UCI race, maybe her 5th overall, and 3rd in the final stage of the International Jeugdtour Assen as a junior provided such inspiration. Natalie has also tasted success in international races, once taking first place in the individual time trial at the Rás na mBan. Having raced in the Tour de Ardeche in 2015 Bex is keen to return and help Team WNT take the team prize. The teamwork on larger stage races is what inspires Becca, who is about to head off to New Zealand and Australia for some intense ‘winter’ training, she suggests that the feeling of working as a team and everything coming together is euphoric. A thought definitely aligned with the founding principles of Team WNT.

Claude Sun, Global Managing Director WNT says: “With Becca, Bex, Keira, and Natalie rejoining the team for 2017 we are well on the way to creating a solid, all-round, team that will be able to compete with the elite of ladies cycling on the European and UK race calendars this coming season. In anticipation of what we are looking to achieve in 2017 the excitement is already mounting and with further developments and announcements still in the pipeline this can only increase.”

“As I head into winter training in New Zealand and Australia, the news that Team WNT have asked me to return will be added incentive to push hard through the southern hemisphere summer and develop my own ability and return stronger and fitter in 2017. I can’t wait for the season to start.” Says Becca.

Bex comments: “It was a terrific opportunity to join Team WNT in 2016 and to be asked to come back for a second season, especially with the plans that the team has is incredible. The opportunity to race on a regular basis in Europe is fantastic.”

Kiera comments: “My first season with Team WNT was a revelation, such a fantastic team to ride for with great team spirit. Having the chance to return and take all of that to a higher level is one that I am looking forward to. With such a great team and work ethic I know we can be a success.”

Natalie says: “After a brilliant 2016 with Team WNT I thought it would be difficult to top it, they gave me fantastic opportunities to race in the UK and give me my first taste of racing abroad in mainland Europe. Now with their decision to apply for UCI status and put ourselves against some of the best in the world is a challenge that I am relishing.”
