On a wet and grey afternoon on the technical course in the heart of Bath, Eileen Roe made history, becoming the most successful female in the Matrix Fitness GP Tour Series after winning round 6 of the 2017 edition from a group of 9 which broke away from the main peloton in the early stages of the race. The British Criterium Champion, scored her 5th individual win since the Matrix Fitness GP started 8 years ago, putting her one individual win ahead of team mate, Katie Archibald.
Unfortunately, an early crash put Lydia Boylan and Josie Knight out of contention but with Gabriella Shaw and Becca Carter in main peloton enough points were scored to win the team win overall on the night, closing the gap to 9 points to 2nd placed team overall, Team Breeze.
‘It was a long sprint, maybe much longer than I’d hoped for, however I was confident I could win from the group of 9 riders. The course was very tricky and twisty, as well as it being very windy on the back end of the circuit, but it suited me perfectly’.
‘To make history today becoming the most successful female in the Matrix Fitness GP Series makes me so proud, especially winning in the coveted British Champions jersey.’ Said Eileen.
