OVO Energy Women’s Tour beckons for WNT – ROTOR Pro Cycling

07/03/2018

We’re delighted to announce that we’ll be on the start line in Framlingham for the 2018 OVO Energy Women’s Tour, our second time racing this prestigious UCI Women’s World Tour event, arguably the world’s biggest stage race on the female calendar.

This will be the fifth edition of the race since being launched by the SweetSpot group in 2014. The five-day stage race will be the longest edition to date with riders covering 678km, commencing on Wednesday 13th June and will finish in Colwyn Bay, North Wales on Sunday 17th June, with the five stages visiting Suffolk, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and North Wales.

Last year’s race was a great success for the team in their first year as a UCI professional team, gaining two top ten finishes on stages, as well as 18th place on general classification. For 2018 it will once again be one of the team’s main targets, racing on home soil in such an illustrious event, and are determined to make their mark on the race and take the opportunity with both hands to compete against the best women’s teams in the world.

Team manager and Managing Director WNT Germany, Claude Sun said,

“This is one of the best races on the calendar, with a great atmosphere, a challenging route and fantastic crowds. The team put in a strong performance last year, and it’ll be great to go back to our home race in June. The race is making leaps and bounds, increasing their prize money fund to €90,000 up from €35,000.”

2 x British Time Trial Champion, Hayley Simmonds attended the Houses of Parliament to launch the event today, and said:

“It’s really exciting for WNT – ROTOR Pro Cycling to be able to race the OVO Energy Women’s Tour again in 2018.”

“The race is leading the way in terms of progressing women’s racing, providing longer stages and equal prize money to the men’s OVO Energy Tour of Britain. Racing on home road is always special and I’m sure the British fans will come out in force yet again to support us.”

The five stages:

Stage 1 – Framlingham – Southwold

Stage 2 – Rushden – Daventry

Stage 3 – Atherstone – Royal Leamington Spa

Stage 4 – Wychavon District – Worcester
