Ahead of a big week of racing in the Basque country, the team are currently on a mid-season training camp which incorporated the WNT Iberia customer ride in Andoain where hundreds of people rode their bikes across the 85km route including 3 x La Vuelta a Espana stage winner Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano and 2 x World Champion and overall general classification winner of La Vuelta a Espana joined our team.
The team are in preparations for Durango – Durango Emakumeen Saria UCI 1.2, a one day race on Thursday 17th May. The 113km race starts and finishes in Durango centre taking on a mountainous route which includes two intermediate sprints and two 3rd category queen of the mountains passages.
Our six-rider team who will line up for Durango – Durango Emakumeen Saria is; Lin Teutenberg, Hayley Simmonds, Natalie Grinczer, Elise Maes, Anna Badegruber and Gabrielle Pilote-Fortin.
Following on from Durango – Durango Emakumeen Saria, the team will take the start in the four-day stage race, Emakumeen Bira XXXI, for the second time after a host of successful results for the team. The 2018 edition received Women’s World Tour status, giving it the highest status any race can be.
The race starts on Saturday 19th May with 108km mountain road stage, starting, and finishing in Legazpi followed by a rolling 27km individual time trial for stage 2 into Gazteiz. The third stage held in Aretxabaleta is 114.5km, another day in the high mountains, with the final stage, the longest stage 120km, racing from Iurreta and finishing in Iurreta.
Hayley Simmonds will be motivated to better her 10th place overall on general classification, and with a time trial on day two, it looks to be an ideal route for our British rider.
WNT Iberica, the Spanish subsidiary of WNT Ceratizit Group will sponsor the sprinters jersey for the second year in a row.
